Emma Marie: Fine Artist

Welcome to EmmaMarieArts

I create semi-realistic custom portraits designed to honour the people and pets you love most. Using acrylic paint on stretched canvas, I aim to capture the likeness, personality, and character of your loved ones to create artwork that feels personal and timeless. Whether commissioned as a gift, a memorial piece, or a special addition to your home, each portrait is created with care and attention to detail, always aiming to surprise my clients with a piece that goes beyond expectations.

Group Portraits

If you don’t have a photo of everyone together, or would like to include a loved one or pet who has passed away, I can combine multiple reference photos using my Graphic Design and Photoshop experience.

Background Adjustments

Background options are customisable, from neutral tones to detailed scenes that reflect personality and interests. I can use professionally licensed imagery of flowers, nature, or locations to create the perfect setting for your portrait.

FAQs

How long does a portrait take?

The time it takes to complete a portrait depends on the size and complexity of the piece, as well as factors such as the number of subjects included. As a general guide for a single subject: small portraits take around 2 weeks, medium portraits 3-4 weeks, and large portraits 4-5 weeks, including drying time before dispatch. If you choose to add a varnish finish, this will extend the time by 2 weeks, as it must fully cure before shipping (which is why I offer it as an optional extra for clients).

What if I can't pay in one instalment?

If you’re unable to pay in one instalment, please don’t worry! I usually take a 50% deposit upfront to secure your place on the waiting list and begin your portrait, with the remaining balance due once the piece is completed and you are 100% happy with it. I can also accommodate different payment arrangements where needed, such as aligning with a specific payday or spreading the cost over three instalments across a longer period. Please note, however, that the full payment must be received before the portrait can be posted.

What photos do I need to send?

The better the quality of your photos, the better the final portrait will be. Ideally, images should be in focus, in colour, and taken in natural lighting. Head-on shots (from the shoulders up) work especially well and help capture detail and expression beautifully. If your portrait includes multiple subjects, try to ensure they are taken in similar lighting and from a consistent angle for the best overall result.

Can I request changes?

You can request changes up until I begin painting, although I recommend finalising adjustments before the sketching stage, as changes made later can risk affecting or weakening the canvas. I always spend a significant amount of time beforehand discussing the composition with you to ensure it is exactly as you envision it. It’s important that you are open and vocal about anything you would like changed during this stage, and please don’t worry about offending me or my artistic vision - this is your portrait, and it should be exactly how you want it!

Behind The Scenes

I love creating behind-the-scenes videos of my portraits as they’re a great way to showcase the process, time, and care that goes into each unique piece. Don't hesitate to request a behind-the-scenes video of your portrait, along with any specific details you’d like including, such as the subject’s name or personality traits!
